Role of Kudumbashree Mission in Solving Problems among the Tribal Neighbourhood Group (NHGS) Members

All over the world discussions are going on about the financial inclusion and empowerment of poor people and experimented with different ways to empower deprived people, especially women. Microfinance and Self Help Groups (SHGs) are the best ways to reach the poor. Thrift and Credit mechanism is the greatest model for financial and social empowerment. Tribals are a marginalized group in India. They have rich traditions and cultural values. But the pathetic situation is that almost all tribal are in poverty. A lot of questions have been raised regarding governance issues or structural change among the tribes. Many of the schemes are exclusively implemented for the Scheduled Tribes in India. The schemes have not touched the quality-oriented output. Kerala Government poverty alleviation project, Kudumbashree has implemented different schemes among the Attappady tribes for their empowerment. The functioning of the Neighbourhood Groups (NHGs) is very supportive of tribes in Attappady. This paper tries to analyze the role of the Kudumbashree Mission in solving the key issues of food insecurity, alcohol use, conflict in family or community, isolation in family or community, and lack of jobs among the tribes in Pudur Grama Panchayath in Attappady Block Panchayath, Manarakkad Taluk, Palakkad District of Kerala State.
